Biggest recall is for over 12,000 Isuzu Troopers
Free checks and repairs for vehicles concerned
Fuel leaks, fires, shattering sunroofs and a loss of steering are behind the latest round of safety recalls from car manufacturers.
The biggest of the recalls affects 12,454 Isuzu Trooper 4x4s built between January 1998 and December 2003. The manufacturer has found that, in some cases, fuel may leak into the engine’s sump and dilute the oil. If left unchecked, the fault could damage the engine and allow revs to build unintentionally.
The smallest of the recalls affects 101 Jaguar XJ8 models built between July and December 2005. Reinforcement bars may have been incorrectly assembled around the sunroof, which could cause it to shatter.
Kia has found that the wiring of the electric driver’s seat adjustment on 2347 Sedona models could rub on the sharp edge of the seat base. This could cause a short circuit and potentially lead to a fire.
A potential fuel leak has also prompted Peugeot to get in touch with 4371 owners of its 307 small family car, 407 family car, 607 executive and 807 MPV. Fuel may leak into the manifold or cylinders after the ignition is turned off and leave owners unable to restart.
Toyota wants to check the steering of 1906 4Runner pick-ups built between April 1993 and March 1995. It says that persistent steering at full lock can lead to a crack in the relay rod, which could cause a loss of control.
In every case, owners are being contacted by the manufacturers with the offer of free checks and remedial work.
