EPA To Take Action Against DuPont Over Harmful Teflon Ingredient

Jun 18, 2004 | AP The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency expects to take formal action against DuPont for not reporting possible health risks of C-8, a chemical used in making Teflon.

The federal law requires that the EPA be told if a manufacturer finds out that a chemical is a risk to human health or the environment.

DuPont spokesman Clif Webb says company officials are confident they didn't violate the law.

The Delaware-based company says the chemical poses no risk to human health at the levels so far detected.

Residents of southeast Ohio and West Virginia are suing Dupont claiming their drinking water is contaminated by C-8 from its plant in Parkersburg, W. Va.
