EPA Warns of Teflon Health Risks
Jan 13, 2005 | AP A chemical used to make the nonstick substance Teflon is being considered by the Environmental Protection Agency as a potential health risk.The EPA on Wednesday said that exposure to even low levels of perfluorooctanoic acid and its salts, known as PFOA, or C-8, could pose "a potential risk of developmental and other adverse effects." Officials emphasized their draft risk assessment was not conclusive.
"We've not offered any determinations of risks," said Charles Auer, director of EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics.
