$100 Million Suit Filed Over Councilwoman's DeathAug 26, 2004 | www.clickondetroit.com The family of former Detroit city councilwoman Brenda Scott is filing a $100 million lawsuit Thursday, nearly two years after her death.
Scott, 47, died Sept. 2, 2002, from alleged complications three days after having a popular stomach-reduction procedure in a Port Huron hospital. The procedure usually requires five or six incisions to implant an adjustable ring around the stomach. Patients usually go home the next day.
The medical examiner said that Scott died after her stomach lining became infected.
