Another Local Priest Accused Of AbuseJun 10, 2002 | WLWT ChannelCincinnati.com
Another Tri-State priest is facing allegations of sex abuse of a teenage boy.
The Rev. Lawrence Strittmatter was placed on administrative leave by Cincinnati Archbishop Daniel Pilarczyk, WLWT Eyewitness News 5 reported.
The allegation came from a man who was a student at Elder High School in the late 1970s when Strittmatter was principal at the school, WLWT reported.
Archdiocese spokesman Dan Andriacco said that it is "an accusation which Father Strittmatter has not denied."
Strittmatter was serving at a parish in Kettering until he was placed on leave, but he has been part of Cincinnati Archdiocese since 1957.
The news that Strittmatter allegedly abused boys was a shock to many parishioners, but not to the archdiocese, WLWT reported.
Church officials first learned of Strittmatter's alleged misconduct in 1988, when a man came forward while Strittmatter was serving as pastor at Our Lady Of Victory, the station reported.
Strittmatter remained in the priesthood and was sent to Kettering after months of therapy. His transfer came with restrictions, Andriacco said.
"(The restrictions included) continuing therapy, knowledge by others in the ministry situation of the person's condition, an agreement not to ever be around children, and some other restrictions," Andriacco said.
Strittmatter is the third current or former Elder teacher to face sex abuse allegations in recent monthS.
