Beech-Nut Nutrition Baby Food Recalled May Contain Pieces of Glass

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) announced that roughly 1,920 pounds of Beech-Nut Nutrition baby food products are being recalled because they may be contaminated with small pieces of glass. The recall is listed as Class I, which is the most serious recall status. According to the USDA's press release a Class I recall means that "This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death."

The recall affects 4-oz. glass jars containing "Stage 2 Beech-Nut CLASSICS sweet potato & chicken. The product was produced on December 12, 2014. The USDA release indicates that the recalled product contains the establishment number "P-68A" inside the USDA mark of inspection and expires in "DEC 2016". The items, which were distributed to retail locations across the country, include product numbers "12395750815" through "12395750821".

Beech-Nut Nutrition, which is based in Amsterdam, N.Y., received a complaint from a consumer who discovered a small piece of glass in the food. An oral injury was reported.
