Car Slams into Storefront on Staten Island

A car crashed through a store at a New Springville strip mall in Staten Island. reports that the driver of a gray Volkswagen Passat lost control of the vehicle and slammed in Life Uniform, a store that sells medical scrubs and uniform supplies, at about 2:40 p.m. on Wednesday. The car hopped a curb and shattered the entranceway of the store as it crashed through, slamming into clothes racks.

According to an FDNY spokesman, no injuries were reported. Authorities were at the location of the store, 2325 Richmond Ave., minutes after the accident. The three passengers inside the car were removed by police officers. The car was disabled and the store’s power was turned off. Then, the car was safely backed out of the entrances.

According to, witnesses report seeing a woman drive the car but could not tell her age. The three passengers stayed at the scene after the crash but their identities are not known. Pina Alvelo, an employee at a nearby business, was at the strip mall when the crash occurred. "I was looking through the window next store -- and boom! The car went full speed into the store," Alvelo said to "I though(t) I had a heart attack."
