Chrysler recalling about 180,000 vehicles

Chrysler Group, based in Auburn Hills, Mich., is voluntarily recalling an estimated 145,099 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 light-duty pickup trucks.
Separately, Chrysler also is voluntarily recalling an estimated 35,103 2001-03 Dodge Durango sports utility vehicles to inspect the console wiring connector for corrosion or contamination, clean as necessary and cap the connector. Owners will be notified of the safety action beginning in October.
The truck recall is to replace the passenger air bag pack and re-program the air bag's computer. The passenger air bag may not be compatible with some rear-facing child seat models if the passenger seat is in the full forward position and an airbag deployment occurs, the company said in a statement late Wednesday.
There are no reports of injuries.
Owners are reminded that infants and children should be placed in the appropriate protective seat and located in the vehicle's rear seat, if available. All 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 standard cab pickup trucks, which do not have a rear seat, are equipped with a switch to deactivate the passenger side front air bag whenever an infant or child is placed in that seating position.
