Lawsuit Claims Diocese Ignored Allegations Of Abuse
Sep 3, 2003 | AP A woman is suing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux City and a retired priest claiming sexual abuse. In a lawsuit filed last week in Woodbury County, the woman claims that the Rev. George McFadden sexually abused her 40 years ago when she was 14.
The lawsuit claims the diocese ignored allegations of abuse by McFadden and continued to allow him to serve as a priest by transferring him to other parishes.
The woman said she has suffered anxiety attacks, difficulty sleeping, nightmares and loss of self-esteem.
Officials with the Sioux City diocese have declined to comment. McFadden has been suspended from his religious duties.
