Company Recalls Vinyl Deck Posts

Jul 17, 2002 | AP

A Canadian company is recalling about 1,250 post kits for decks because the posts can crack leading to the collapse of railings.

Royal Outdoor Products of Woodbridge, Ontario and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have received seven reports of the posts cracking and one report of a post that failed, the agency said Wednesday. There have been no reports of injuries.

The recalled Royal Colonial Vinyl Deck Post Kit is intended for use with the Royal vinyl deck rail system. On the bottom of each 4-inch square post is a label with the words "Royal Outdoor Products" and "R008-45-136." Each kit contains one post.

Home Depot stores in the mid-Atlantic region sold these deck post kits from February 2002 through April 2002 for about $30.
