A Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Doctors At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The widow of Dr. Stephen J. Gould, an eminent evolutionary biologist, has commenced a wrongful death lawsuit against doctors at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Womens Hospital claiming that they failed to notice a malignant tumor which tripled in size over the course of 15 months. By the time the tumor was detected at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Goulds cancer had already spread to his brain and liver.
The Lawsuit Charges That The Tumor Been Detected.
The lawsuit charges that had the tumor been detected in February 2001, it could have been surgically removed and the cancer treated. Dr. Gould has been credited with a number of ground-breaking theories on evolution and was only 60 at the time of his death. The doctors named in the lawsuit are Robert J. Mayer, director of the Center for Gastrointestinal Oncology at Dana-Farber, and Salvatore G. Viscomi and Rebecca L. Dyson, who are both radiologists at Brigham and Womens Hospital.
