Eye Surgeon Admits To Being Drunk On JobJan 16, 2003 | AP The state has suspended an eye surgeon who admitted he performed operations while drunk.
Doctor Vikas Jain of Granville has lost his license for nine months and must seek treatment for alcohol addiction.
Jain has reached an agreement with the State Medical Board saying he performed LASIK eye surgery while intoxicated.
Jain also faces two complaints of medical malpractice in Franklin County and one in Licking County. Attorneys for the three patients say he damaged their vision and never should have operated on them.
Jain works at the Columbus and Newark offices of the Bloomberg Eye Center. The company's Web site says Jain has performed more than 18,000 LASIK procedures and 15,000 other surgical procedures.
