Former Altar Boy Sues Indianapolis Archdiocese Alleging Sex AbuseJul 27, 2004 | AP A former altar boy has sued the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis, claiming that two priests sexually abused him three decades ago.
The lawsuit was filed Monday in Marion County Superior Court.
The man claims that the Rev. Carlton J. Beever and former Rev. Thomas J. Amsden sexually abused him at St. Mary Parish in Greensburg between 1972 and 1977.
The 56-year-old Beever now is pastor of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church on Indianapolis' east side. Church officials say Beever and Amsden deny the claims.
Spokeswoman Susan Borcherts says the archdiocese has placed Beever on administrative leave and opened an internal investigation. She said the 62-year-old Amsden resigned as pastor of St. Mary in 1995 to get married.
