Hartford Priest Faces Lawsuit Alleging Abuse

Oct 3, 2002 | AP

A priest in the Hartford archdiocese, who also served as a fire department chaplain, is facing more allegations of sexual abuse.

A second lawsuit has been filed against the Rev. Stephen Foley, accused of abusing a 15-year-old Farmington boy nearly 30 years ago.

Identified only as Richard Doe in the lawsuit, the plaintiff was able to file the suit because of a new state law that expanded the statute of limitations, according to the plaintiff's lawyer Thomas McNamara.

The lawsuit alleges that Foley befriended the boy's family and stayed at his home on weekends. Another lawsuit was filed against Foley in August. That plaintiff claimed Foley molested him in 1977 when he also was 15.

The new lawsuit also names the archdiocese as a defendant.

A message seeking comment from Foley was left at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, where he is a resident.
