Advertisement hospital and blocked traffic for about three hours, said state police spokesman Sgt. Bob Carpentieri.
The accident occurred about 4 p.m. near the 202.4 mile marker when a tractor-trailer approached backed-up northbound traffic and swerved into the right lane, striking a Toyota van and setting off a chain reaction involving six other vehicles, Carpentieri said.
The van's driver, was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center. Two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, he said.
