Manufacturer Recalls Infant Car Seats

May 20, 2002 | AP

About 26,000 infant car seats are being recalled by the manufacturer because their handles can be unexpectedly released when they are used as carriers, sending a child tumbling to the ground.

The manufacturer, Dorel Juvenile Group Inc. of Columbus, Ind., is cooperating with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (news - web sites) in the voluntary recall, the agencies said. The company has received four reports of the handle releasing when the car seat was used as a carrier. No injuries were reported.

The products were sold nationwide at mass merchandise and department stores under the Safety 1st and Beatrix Potter "Designer 22" brand names from January through April. Only model numbers and color codes 02-621-SAL, 02-620-AZY and 02-620-BEA are included in the recall.
