Nissan Issues Three Recalls For Frontier And Xterra

Nov 26, 2002 | AP

Nissan North America has issued three recalls of the Frontier and Xterra vehicles.

The largest recall involves 143,000 vehicles from the 2001-2003 model years built from July 2000 to September 2002. A bad seal on the antilock brake system can allow water to get in, corrode the wheel bearing and eventually cause the wheel to come off.

The second recall involves 2001 model vehicles. It covers 44,000 vehicles built from October 2000 to January 2001. Under certain conditions, gasoline can spill during refueling.

The third recall involves 5,000 supercharger vehicles from the 2002 model year built from July 2001 to January 2002. Under some conditions, the amount of air going to into the engine may exceed its limit. If that happens, the engine will go into fail-safe mode and not exceed 2400 rpm.

A Nissan spokesman said no injuries have been identified related to the problems, but he could not say whether accidents had occurred.

All three recalls were posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (news - web sites)'s Web site Tuesday. Nissan said it plans to begin notifying owners in January and will provide free repairs at dealers.
