OxyElite Pro Recall Expansion Includes One More Flavored PowderNov 21, 2013
The maker of the dietary supplement OxyElite Pro has expanded a recall to include another variety of its product. These and other products were removed from the market by order of federal health officials who say they're linked to numerous cases of severe liver injuries, including one death.
According to a statement from USPlabs LLC, the latest product to be included in the recall initially unveiled last week is Raspberry Lemonade OxyElite Pro Super Thermo Powder.
The recalled product was sold alongside other flavors of so-called Super Thermo Powders, which also carry the OxyElite Pro brand. The Raspberry Lemonade Super Thermo Powder was sold in a variety of flavors and was available in a 4.6-ounce package.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered USPlabs LLC to remove any OxyElite Pro products from the market because regulators believe they were linked to several reports of severe liver injury, including acute liver failure. The FDA believes that at least one death could be attributed to this dietary supplement. Most of these incidents were reported in Hawaii.
In a warning statement issued by the FDA last week, regulators said that if USPlabs LLC did not recall these supplements, they would use their newly acquired enforcement powers to force the company to remove the products from store shelves and also eradicate all mention of them on retail websites.
Other products included in the original recall were OxyElite Pro Super Thermo capsules, which were sold in a variety of package sizes ranging from two pills to 180, and OxyElite Pro Ultra-Intense Thermo capsules, which were available in packages of three to 180 capsules at a time.
In addition to the Raspberry Lemonade Super Thermo Powder, the original action also called back Fruit Punch, Blue Raspberry, Grape Bubblegum, and Green Apple.
