Recall Issued for Savory Foods Pork Rinds

Sep 13, 2016

Due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, Savory Foods is recalling its pork rind products. The recall affects 32,928 pounds of pork rind products that were shipped to a distribution center in Pennsylvania. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the pork rind products contain wheat. Wheat causes an allergic reaction in some people, and this ingredient was not noted on the product label.

The recall affects Hot and Spicy Pork Rind items produced from Aug. 11, 2015 to Aug. 31, 2016. The following products are affected, according to FSIS:

  • 3.5-oz. PLASTIC BAGS containing pieces of "UTZ HOT AND SPICY PORK RINDS CHICHARRONES" with use by codes of 2475 NOV 28/15 to 2475 DEC 9/16

The recalled products contain the establishment number "EST. 1001". This number can be found in the upper right hand side of the bag near the USE BY DATE.

The issue was identified by FSIS personnel during a routine label review. No injuries related to the recall have been reported thus far.

The USDA classified the recall as Class II, meaning "This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product."
