Roman Catholic Diocese Faces Abuse LawsuitApr 21, 2004 | www.whotv.com
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux City faces another lawsuit over alleged sexual abuse by a priest.
Five people are suing the diocese over alleged abuse that happened when they were children in the 1960s. Their lawyer says they gave up waiting for the church to take action.
The lawsuit, filed this week in Woodbury County, names the diocese and the Reverend George McFadden. Four similar lawsuits against McFadden and the diocese are pending and are scheduled for trial early next year in Sioux City.
Diocese spokesman Jim Wharton declined to comment on the lawsuits, but says the diocese continues to work with those who may have been victims of clergy abuse.
