Several Volkswagen Models Recalled

Dec 27, 2004 | Volkswagen is recalling 369,284 cars after reports of leaking fuel pumps and defective hazard-light switches.

About 300,000 Golf, GTI and Jetta vehicles from the 2000 to 2002 model years are being recalled because the hazard switch and flasher-system function may degrade over time because of a high electrical-current load from the turn-signal bulbs, according to the National Highway Transport Safety Administration.

The automaker is also recalling 19,284 Golf, Jetta, Beetle and Passat cars from the 2004 to 2005 model years because of a leaking diesel-fuel pump which could lead to a fire, according to the report.

Volkswagen is also checking up to 447,000 cars made between 2001 and 2003, including Golf, GTI and Jettas, for possible airbag problems. Officials reportedly found 107 cases in which side-door airbags may have deployed improperly.

A VW representative said the NHTSA asked the automaker last week about the reports.

"We are investigating the cases and are in contact with the authorities about the inquiry," said the unidentified representative in the Reuter's report.

The automaker was unaware of any injuries stemming from the recalled vehicles, according to the representative.
