Steak n Shake To Pay $25,000 To Settle Bias SuitOct 8, 2004 | www.indystar.com Steak n Shake has agreed to pay $25,000 to settle a federal discrimination lawsuit that accused it of failing to hire a deaf job applicant in Fenton, Mo., because of his disability.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed the lawsuit in July on behalf of Kerry Gillihan.
A consent decree outlining the settlement was filed Thursday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis, the EEOC said.
Indianapolis-based Steak n Shake operates 400 restaurants in 18 states and employs more than 20,000 people.
