United Exchange Corp Eye Wash May be Contaminated with Microbes RecalledSep 16, 2016
A voluntary recall is being issued for United Exchange Corp. Family Care Eye Wash 4 oz because the product may be contaminated with microbes. According to a recall alert posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website Sept. 7, using the tainted eyewash can lead to an eye infection and blindness. The wash consists of a purified water solution.
“Use of a contaminated product could be calamitous for any population since there is a reasonable probability of a potentially sight threatening eye infection.” the alert states. The recalled Eye Wash/Eye Irrigation Solution is used when harmful foreign substances get into the eyes, such as air pollutants and chlorinated water. United Exchange discovered the issue through a product complaint. So far, no illnesses linked to the recall have been reported.
Customers and distributors are being notified of the recall via recall letter. The company is arranging for the products to be returned or disposed of, and urges customers and businesses to stop using or selling the eye wash.
If consumers have questions about the recall, United Exchange can be reached at 800-814-8028, available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (Pacific Time). For additional questions, the company advises consumers to speak with their physician.
