U.S. Investigating GM Antilock BrakesMay 27, 2005 | UPI
U.S. regulators are investigating the brakes used on some 1.3 million General Motors Corp. vehicles in what could turn into a costly recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating whether a defect exists in antilock brakes on 1.3 million 1999-2002 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups sold in the United States, as well as Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe and GMC Yukon sport utility vehicles, the Detroit News said Friday.
If an antilock brake sensor malfunctions, it can engage at low speeds, cutting driver control and extending stopping distances.
