WOMEN WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD) SUFFER MORE SEVERE SYMPTOMS AND MORE EMOTIONAL IMPAIRMENT THAN MEN

Jun 6, 2005 | www.Newsinferno.com

This past week, a team of researchers from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, presented the findings of a study comparing men and women with confirmed cases of childhood ADHD to a meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. The bottom line of the study was that women with ADHD are likely to suffer more severe symptoms and more emotional impairment than do men.

After comparing and analyzing the results of a number of ADHD-related tests taken by 348 men and 188 women, the researchers found, that in all areas, women displayed scores which were indicative of more severe emotional symptoms as well as a greater degree of Adult Attention Deficit Disorder. It is hoped that the study will help more women get properly diagnosed and treated especially when they are being treated for anxiety or depression and have continued symptoms that don’t fully fit those diagnoses.
