BRONX, NY – June 16, 2020 – According to an online news article posted on nydailynews.com, the mother of a 10-year-old girl is furious at the NYPD after an NYPD patrol car struck her child while the little girl was attempting to cross a street. The victim’s mother stated that her daughter had the right of way as the police car sped into her child without utilizing the car’s horn, siren, or lights. The mother of the victim rushed to the side of her injured daughter when she heard her child was struck by a police cruiser, and the child was lying in the road on Hunts Point Avenue.
Fortunately, the little girl survived the pedestrian accident, but she sustained injuries to her ankle and head. According to the little girl’s mother, her child now walks with a limp. The mother stated that a police officer driving over the speed limit without his or her lights and sirens is just a speeder. The mother also stated that she believes that if a police officer needs to speed, the officer must turn on his or her lights and siren.
On Sunday, a police spokeswoman stated that the law enforcement officers were using the patrol car’s siren and lights. The police were responding to a call involving an emotionally disturbed individual about two blocks from the accident scene. The spokeswoman stated that the patrol car was responding to the call with the police car’s “lights and sirens” turned on. Then the 10-year-old girl ran into the street and was hit by the car’s passenger’s side front bumper, according to Detective Denise Moroney.
The pedestrian accident left the child traumatized, and her mom claims that she doesn’t feel the NYPD has given her a “satisfactory explanation” for why the accident occurred. The mother stated that she feels “the cops need to pay for what he did to my daughter. We need justice … Cops are supposed to help you, not hurt you.”
