Bayer has agreed to pay at least $110 million to Yasmin claimants in order to settle the first 500 lawsuits over claims that its Yasmin group of birth-control pills caused blood clots in the young women using them.
According to newsinferno.com, 11,000 plaintiffs have filed suit against Bayer alleging that Yaz and Yasmin and similar birth control pills caused a number of serious side effects, including:
- Blood clots
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- Pulmonary Embolism
- Strokes
- Heart Attacks
- Gallbladder Disease/Removal
- Death
Previously, in February, Bayer had claimed to have only settled 170 of these cases. Bayer says they will consider settling more cases, but failed to say how many or for how much money they would be willing to settle for.
