For patients suffering with heart problems like atrial fibrillation, the prescription drug Pradaxa seemed like a perfect resolution. But when the drug started causing injuries for those who use it on a daily basis, they soon understood how dangerous it could really be.
Serious side effects include things such as bilirubin and hepatic dysfunction, myocardial infarction, anaphylactic shock and anaphylactic reaction. Pradaxa has even been linked to causing bleeding events. These bleeding events include gastrointestinal bleeds and cerebral bleeding – bleeding in the brain.
The problem with these bleeding events is not singular to this one drug. Drugs in the same class as Pradaxa, such as Coumadin and Warafarin, also can give patients bleeding events. However, with Pradaxa, the bleeding event is much harder to stop and may only be stopped by dialysis. Typically, these kinds of events can be stopped by giving the patient of vitamin K. But with Pradaxa not responding to vitamin K like that, bleeding events have a much higher risk of permanent damage and death with the patient. Watch the video now to learn more.
