Sharon John on Trial Nursing Home AbuseThe trial of four employees from Northwoods Rehabilitation Center in Schaghticoke, who are accused of criminal neglect of an incapacitated patient began this week. Facing trial in Rensselaer County Court before Judge Andrew Ceresia are certified nursing assistant Sharon John, licensed practical nurses Kathleen Osgood and Linda Vogt, and physicians assistant Julia Roske. Each faces counts of falsifying business records, a felony; endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a misdemeanor; and willful violation of health laws.

In 2010, nine nurses and aides at the nursing home were charged in a 175-count indictment with neglecting a patient. The New York State Attorney General’s Office set up a hidden camera which reportedly recorded the neglectful care. It was alleged that the nursing home employees then falsified records to cover up the lack of care.
