Is Fosamax Effective for Bone Disease?

With many people suffering from bones diseases like osteoporosis, there is a large market for a prescription drug that can help treat and prevent these types of diseases. One treatment available to the public is a bisphosphonate class drug called Fosamax.
Bisphosphonates is a class of drugs that is used to prevent bone class. Fosamax, manufactured by the company Merck, is a popular version of this drug that has been on the market for more than a decade.
But even since 2000, the drug has had negative feedback and issues when it was linked to bone death within the jaw. As the years past, more side effects began to appear within the medical community. Women began to experience esophageal cancer, atypical femur fractures, and even atypical arrhythmia. Studies from the Food and Drug Administration have recognized the risk and even asked to place warning labels on the drug. Their studies, along with others, are showing that the drug is not as effective as once thought and that no benefit comes from the drug after a usage time of more than 3 years.
