Johnson & Johnson gets FDA warning about O.B. Tampons, K-Y Liquibeads complaints and other issues

A J &J Unit, McNeil-PPC, is in trouble with the FDA for failing to follow up with complaints about O.B. tampons causing toxic shock syndrome and the personal lubricant K-Y Liquibeads Vaginal Moisturizer, a product which J& J never actually had permission to sell. McNeil-PPC did not tell the FDA that they were going to substantially change the lubricant from previous lubricant products or that they would be selling the product.
The company received two hundred twenty seven complaints about the K-Y Liquibeads product from the end of June 2010 until December 2011. The FDA said J&J must respond to their letter within 15 business days about how it will address these allegations, or they risk facing seizure of its products or a fine, something J & J would not be happy about. J&J is taking the warning seriously and is working to comply – a spokeswoman for J&J even said it will do whatever it takes to make the FDA happy.
