The prescription drug Propecia belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs). These drugs are used to treat male pattern baldness (with Propecia) and enlarged prostate in men (with drugs like Avodart and Proscar).
However, recent studies are showing that these drugs are having adverse side effects in patients. These side effects can include an increased risk to high-grade prostate cancer, a very aggressive form of the disease.
Warnings have already been heralded by our government’s FDA (the Food and Drug Administration as early as last year. And that was followed by the Health Canada who also made public the risks involved. Not only can cancer develop, but that condition can cause serious complications that can also lead to death. And since Propecia is one of the most effective and popular drugs on the market, it’s concerning that such a dangerous product could be out there for the public to use. Any patient who suffers such an injury – or any unknown danger – should be compensated due to the company’s lack of responsibility when it comes to the consumer’s safety.
