Samsonite-Recalls-Quarter-Million-Suitcases-in-Cancer-ScareOwners of Samsonite luggage should be concerned that there luggage might be contaminated with harmful chemicals that may cause cancer. Samsonite is the world’s largest manufacturer of luggage, and recently recalled one of its most popular brands.

The reason for the recall is that there have been numerous claims that the handles on the pieces of luggage contained highly harmful chemicals. Specifically, excessive levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) had been found in the handles of four types of the company’s suitcases. All of the suitcases involved in the recall are from the company’s line of American Tourister brand of luggage, and in particular pieces from the Tokyo Chic inventory.

The chemicals said to be found on the handles are carcinogenic in nature, which means they have been linked to cancer in some studies. Samsonite denies all of the claims, and stands by the story that they are doing this for precautionary reasons, but owners of this luggage are still advised to be careful around their suitcases and be aware of any further developments in this ongoing story.
