A Former Naples Priest Face Allegations Of Abuse. A retired Naples priest barred from ministry because of allegations of sexual abuse faces a new accusation.
A lawsuit charges William Romero with the sexual assault of an altar boy in Miami in 1975.
Romero moved to LaBelle east of Fort Myers after retiring from the priesthood more than a decade ago. Years later, men and women from Naples to New York have been coming forward to accuse him of abuse.
The lawsuit also names the Archdiocese of Miami and Archbishop John Favarola as defendants, accusing them of quote “a pattern of criminal conduct designed to conceal the sexual exploitation of children by their clergy.”
A spokeswoman for the archdiocese didn’t return a phone call today. Romero says he knows about about the latest allegations and has offered to take a lie detector test.
