Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers internal Component Can Fail. About 2,000 Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers, which were manufactured in China and imported by the Home Depot, of Atlanta, Georgia, are being recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.

The Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers are being recalled because an internal component can fail, causing the dehumidifier to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. To date, the Home Depot has received 18 reports of the dehumidifiers catching fire. One consumer reported a burn injury to his forearm.

Dehumidifiers Sold At Home Depot

The dehumidifiers are beige, have four wheels, and measure 21 inches high, 13 ½ inches wide, and 17 ½ inches long. “Hampton Bay” is printed on the front panel. Model HB-50 is being recalled. The model number is printed on the back interior panel.

The recalled Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers were sold for $120 and $150 at the Home Depot from November 2000 through May 2007

The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled dehumidifier and contact Home Depot to receive a gift card for the full amount of the purchase price. The Home Depot can be reached, toll-free, at 1-800-553-3199 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or at the firm’s Web site at www.homedepot.com

We have been following the issue of defective and, sometimes, dangerous imports making their way into this country from China. The recalled Hampton Bay Dehumidifier were manufactured in China and are just one of many recalls and issues concerning defective products, food, and medicines imported into this country from China. Such defective imports have been making headlines in recent years and the recalled Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers is just another one of many such issues.

In 2008, nearly 80 percent of all product recalls in the U.S. involved imports from China. Products such as dog food, baby formula, toys with lead paint, and even pharmaceuticals like heparin were found to have been made with toxic materials and other counterfeit ingredients that have long put American consumers at significant health risks. Also making news is the ongoing and massive Chinese drywall disaster involving imports from that country.

Parker Waichman was extremely professional and helpful in handling our WTC case. Benita Rollis, in particular, was amazing in helping us complete all the necessary steps and paper work for our claim. She was always quick to return phone calls and reach out to keep us posted on how things were progressing. Not only was Benita efficient and professional, she was also very compassionate in helping us through the emotional side of this long process. Carolyn Corcoran & Family
