Aldara, (generic: Imiquimod) manufactured by 3M Pharmaceuticals is a patient-applied cream available by prescription for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts. Aldara was granted FDA approved in December 2001. Aldara’s main ingredient, imiquimod (IQ). The most common side effect of Aldara is anaphylactic shock. IQ upsets cytokine movement in the process and also attacks the body's mucus membrane tissue.

Cytokines are a major piece of the immune system's communication centers. When this communication system becomes interrupted by something such as IQ, it often can result in autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and celiac disease, and general inflammation.

Anaphylactic shock is a severe, whole-body allergic reaction. Prescription medications can cause anaphylaxis shock. After an initial exposure, the reaction can be sudden, severe, and sometimes fatal. An anaphylactic reaction takes place when the body's immune system overreacts to an antigen, which it recognizes as an intruder.

Symptoms of Anaphylactic Shock
