Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream Warning

Keyword:  Mommys Bliss Nipple Cream Lawyer Lawsuit

The lawyers and attorneys at our firm are currently offering free case evaluations to parents of infants sickened by Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream.  In May 2008, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned that Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream contained chemical ingredients that could cause respiratory distress, as well as vomiting and diarrhea in infants.  The product liability lawyers at our firm will make sure that the infants and families injured by defective Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream receive the compensation they deserve.

Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream, marketed by MOM Enterprises Inc., is intended to help nursing mothers soothe and heal dry or cracked nipples.  The product label specifically states that Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream does not need to be removed before a baby is allowed to nurse.  Our product liability lawyers have concluded that MOM Enterprises has been negligent in making this statement, as the chemicals used in Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream are unsafe for infants.

MOM Enterprises said it has stopped marketing the dangerous Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream, but the move likely comes too late for many infants.  The product liability lawyers at our firm are concerned that an unknown number of babies may have experienced serious side effects due to their exposure to Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream.

According to the FDA, Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream contains two chemicals that can be harmful to infants who ingest the product.  The first is chlorphenesin, a muscle relaxant. Chlorphenesin is not commercially available in the United States.  Chlorphenesin can depress the central nervous system and cause respiratory depression (slow or shallow breathing) in infants. Chlorphenesin can also harm a nursing mother by causing dermatitis, a skin condition that can worsen the drying and cracking of nipple skin.

The FDA also said Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream is made with phenoxyethanol.  Phenoxyethanol is a preservative used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and some vaccines.  According to the FDA, phenoxyethanol can also depress the central nervous system and may cause vomiting and diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration in infants.

Janet Woodcock, M.D., director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said the agency was concerned that mothers of nursing infants were unwittingly exposing their children to the dangerous chemicals in Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream. "Additionally, these two ingredients may interact with one another to further compound and increase the risk of respiratory depression in nursing infants," Woodcock said.

The FDA said it had not received any reports of injuries related to Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream, although not all drug side effects are reported to the FDA.  The agency warned that mothers and caregivers of nursing infants exposed to Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream watch for a decrease in an infant's appetite. More serious signs would be difficulty in awakening the child, limpness of extremities or a decrease in an infant's strength of grip and a change in skin color.

The FDA is advising consumers to discontinue use of Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream and to consult a health care professional if they experience problems or believe that their infant may have experienced problems due to this product. Nursing mothers with cracked, painful nipples, which is often a side effect of nursing, should speak with their health care professional or a certified lactation consultant if the problem is severe or for other treatment options.

While MOM Enterprises has removed Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream from the market, it has denied that the product is dangerous.  According to the company's website, "the amount of chlorphenesin and phenoxyethanol in the product is minute relative to what is considered allowable for adults." Our product liability lawyers strongly disagree, and are of the opinion that these chemicals - regardless of amount - are never safe for infants.

Anyone who purchased Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream should stop using it immediately. Consumers can contact MOM Enterprises at 1-877-457-4955 for a refund.
