Tiazac Side Effects May Lead To Infertility Lawsuits

Tiazac | Lawyers, Lawsuits | Side Effects: Male Infertility, Inhibits Motility, Viability of Sperm

Parker & Waichman, LLP is investigating reports of permanent male infertility associated with Tiazac. Tiazac is sold in the United States under the brand names: Cardizem, Cardizem CD, Cardizem LA, Cardizem SR, Cartia XT, Dilacor XR, Diltia XT and Diltiazem. The FDA approved Tiazac, which is manufactured by Biovail Laboratories, on October 16, 1998.

Tiazac is a popular calcium channel blocker used to relax or widen your blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to pump and reducing the stress on the heart. Tiazac is generally used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and to slow unusually fast heartbeats.  However, it is often commonly prescribed for off-label uses as well.

Studies have found that Tiazac greatly inhibits motility and viability of sperm. It is believed that these drugs may elevate the cholesterol level in sperm, leading to the decreased ability of the sperm to bind to the egg. For these reasons Tiazac is now commonly being used as a vas irrigation at the time of vasectomies.
