According to an online news report on todayuknews.com, Subaru issued a recall for certain Imprezas due to a “lower control arm weld defect on the front driver’s side.” Subaru admits that the defect may fail on the recalled Imprezas.
The NHTSA stated that if the defective lower control arm fails, the car’s tire could rub the wheel well, causing the vehicle to lose control, and the defect is a severe risk for causing an accident.
According to Auto Blog’s article, Subaru initiated an investigation of the defect and discovered its manufacturing equipment on the “control arm’s assembly line was damaged.” This assembly equipment damage resulted in an interruption with the welding torch resulting in an incomplete weld.
Subaru states that the defect has the potential to cause an accident, and the company is working quickly to notify customers and remedy the situation. Subaru is urging the affected owners of the recalled Imprezas not to drive the vehicle until the repair has been made. Customers who own an affected Impreza will be notified by Subaru directly.
Only 800 Imprezas are affected by the recall at this time. Therefore, not all 2021 Impreza purchasers will receive a recall notice since not all Imprezas have the control arm defect.
According to the article, owners of recalled Subaru Impreza will receive a new lower control arm. Subaru is able to determine which lower swing arms are defective by lot number.
Subaru Impreza owners may also contact Subaru’s customer service to find out if their motor vehicle is part of the recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle website also enables car owners to check their vehicle’s recall status by searching the car’s VIN.
