According to a news article on kbb.com, Toyota Motor Corporation has issued a safety recall affecting approximately 46,000 2022 Tundra pickup trucks. The 2022 Tundra truck has been recalled due to a defect that affects the rear axle nut. Toyota’s recall announcement states that the recall only affects 2022 Tundra models. The recall also states that the defective rear axle assembly nuts can “loosen over time.” Should the rear axle assembly nuts loosen completely, the axle subassembly could separate from the axle leading to vehicle stability and brake performance issues, increasing the risk of an accident with injuries or deaths.
Toyota dealerships will inspect the rear axle assembly nuts and, if required, their mechanics will tighten the rear axle assembly nuts to the correct torque. Should any other parts appear worn down due to the loosening axle nuts, the dealerships will replace them.
All recall repairs are performed for the customer at no cost. However, millions of vehicle owners miss important recall notices each year and are unknowingly operating unsafe, recalled motor vehicles.
