BRP Ski-Doo and UTV Fire Lawsuits
BRP has announced the recall of 400 2022 Ski-Doo Snowmobiles, 1,300 2022 Can-Am Outlander ATVs, and 1,050 American Landmaster UTVs. This recall was initiated after the company discovered defects with the speedometers and steering shafts. According to the recall, the defects can lead to a severe accident. The recall affects units sold in the United States.
According to the recall report, the recalled Ski-Doo Snowmobiles can catch on fire due to a fuel tank leak onto hot components. These Ski-Doos can catch fire when the snowmobiles tilt or flip over. Another 3,900 snowmobiles sold in Canada were recalled for the same hazard.
This recall also includes the 900 ACE turbo engine snowmobiles, including the 2020-2021 Ski-Doo and the 2022 Expedition SWT, LE, and SE snowmobile models.
BRP states that customers who purchased the recalled vehicles should immediately stop using the vehicles and contact their local dealer for a free repair. BRP also stated that it was contacting all known customers directly to schedule the free repair. The two BRP snowmobile recalls are related to the vehicles’ speedometers, and the American Landmaster’s recall is due to a defective steering shaft.
BRP reports that it has received four incident reports of the speedometer not showing the correct speed. The affected snowmobiles were sold at Ski-Doo dealers between June and December 2021 at a price of $9,300 to $9,900. The recalled UTVs and ATVs were sold at Can-Am dealers between July and November 2021 at a price of $6,700 and $7,700.
