According to an online news report posted on rideapart.com, certain Burly Brand Dominator and Jail Bar handlebars were recalled due to a defective weld that could crack, resulting in injury. The recall affects several finishes and sizes. Performance Machine, who makes the affected handlebars, stated that their recalled motorcycle handlebars could crack and separate from the top clamps causing motorcyclist operators to lose control of their motorcycles and crash.
After Performance Machine investigated the matter, it was determined that the manufacturing variances in welding thickness and size during manufacture were the problem. The recall alert states that the weld attaching the threaded inserts to the upright tube might not be welded in accordance with the design specification.
Performance Machine is recalling more than 900 individual Burly Brand aftermarket handlebars across a range of Jail and Dominator handlebar sizes, including:
Burley Brand:
The recalled Burly Brand Dominator handlebars were manufactured between November 25, 2020, and April 29, 2022, and the affected Jail Bar handlebars were manufactured from August 17, 2020, until April 29, 2022. Burly states that warning signs that motorcycle riders may experience include excessive looseness in the handlebars before any weld cracking or failure.
The company stated that a remedy had not been developed at this time, and owners should contact Performance Machine. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety’s recall campaign number is 22E-036. Performance Machine did not issue its own recall number at this time.
