According to an online news report posted on cbslocal.com, the Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 200,000 cars in the United States due to defective brake lights. The recall report states that certain Ford motor vehicles have a defect that causes the recalled vehicles’ brake lights to remain on, causing an unsafe condition.
The Ford brake light recall covers some 2014 and 2015 Lincoln MKZ midsize cars, 2014/2015 Ford Fusion cars, and certain 2015 Mustangs. The recalled motor vehicles were registered or sold in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Hawaii.
The recall announcement states that humidity and high temperatures can cause a rubber brake pedal part to deteriorate. The defect keeps the car’s brake lights turned on, potentially confusing other drivers and increasing the risk of an accident.
Drivers who purchased a recalled motor vehicle with automatic transmissions are able to shift out of “park” gear without pressing the brake pedal with their foot. Ford dealerships will replace the clutch and brake pedal bumpers. Affected car owners will be notified by mail starting March 3, 2022. For additional information, visit Ford’s website here.
