According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall campaign number 22V056000, certain Hyundai motor vehicles have been recalled due to an ABS unit defect that could cause an engine compartment fire. The defect could occur while parked or during driving. The fire risk can lead to house fires and accidents resulting in injury or death. Hyundai Motor America’s recall announcement states that the recall affects about 357,830 motor vehicles.
The recall affects certain 2014-2015 Tucson, 2017-2018 Santa Fe Sport, 2016-2018 Santa Fe, and 2019 Santa Fe XL motor vehicles. The recall announcement states that a defect in the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module can malfunction, causing an electrical short that can start a fire in the engine compartment.
Owners of the recalled Hyundai vehicles are urged to park their outside and away from homes, garages, and other structures until the recall has been repaired. Hyundai dealers will inspect and replace the ABS multi-fuse and ABS module, as needed, and at no charge. The owner notification letters will be mailed out by April 5, 2022.
