Toyota Recall by 1.8 Million Vehicles

STATEN ISLAND, New York — Toyota expanded its most recent safety recall by 1.8 million cars, trucks, and sports utility vehicles as reported by SILIVE.com. Toyota expanded its recall campaign because it learned that additional vehicles were produced with a fuel pump defect that could stall the car and would not allow a restart. If the fuel pump failed at high speeds, such as on a highway or Interstate, then the event would increase the risk of a high-speed collision that could kill or seriously injure the occupants of the stalled Toyota as well as the occupants of the vehicle that strikes the stalled Toyota. Toyota said that the recall concerns its Toyota lines as well as its Lexus luxury vehicles as well.

Toyota released its initial announcement concerning the fuel pump recall on January 13, 2020. Since then, the international car maker has determined that another 1.8 million vehicles should be recalled. The vehicles added to the expanded recall program include Lexus LS 460 from years 2013 to 2015, Lexus GS 350 from model years 2013 and 2014, 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser and Lexus IS-F, Toyota 4-Runner, Land Cruiser, and Lexus GX 460, IS 350, and LX 570 from model years 2014 and 2015, Lexus NX 200t and RC 350 from the model year 2015, 2017 Lexus IS 200t and RC 200t, as well as 2017 to 2019 Toyota Sienna and Lexus RX 350 models. Toyota also included 2018 Lexus GS 300, and 2018 to 2019 Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra models also with numerous Lexus models including ES 350, GS 350, IS 300, IS 350, LC 500, LC 500h, LS 500, LS 500h, RC 300, RC 350, and RX 350L.

Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the defective fuel pumps found in the recalled vehicles with improved models with no cost to the consumer, Toyota said.
