GARDEN CITY, NY – August 17, 2020 – According to a news story on Patch.com, a man from Florida was arrested on numerous charges in Garden City, New York, on Friday afternoon. The police officers handling the case allege the Florida man drove a bucket truck into a cyclist, and the bicyclist died as a result of his injuries. According to statements provided by the police, the 33-year-old man from Jacksonville, Florida, was operating a bucket truck on Merchants Concourse. The man allegedly struck five vehicles at a red light stoplight at the Corporate Drive intersection. Law enforcement alleges the bucket truck driver continued to head southbound on Merchants Concourse, and while on the Meadowbrook Parkway overpass, the bucket truck driver struck and killed a bicyclist. Then the truck driver turned right turn onto Stewart Avenue, and the truck driver caused a head-on crash with two additional motor vehicles. The truck driver was unable to leave the scene of the head-on collision.
When law enforcement arrived at the head-on collision scene, the truck driver was taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, the 39-year-old bicyclist was declared deceased at the scene of his bicycle accident with the bucket truck.
The bucket truck driver was arrested and has been charged with numerous felonies and misdemeanors, including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree vehicular manslaughter, two counts of driving while ability impaired, leaving the scene of an incident, reckless driving, and received several traffic violations.
