
Hit and run bicycle accident
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY. – According to a news report published online at abc7ny.com, a driver struck a teenager on a bicycle, then fled the scene in Suffolk County, New York. Authorities are still looking for the missing driver and are offering a cash reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to a suspect.
The accident took place in the evening at the intersection of Bethpage Road and Dixon Avenue in Suffolk County. Suffolk County Police and ABC 7 report that a 15-year-old girl was riding her bicycle in the area, when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver then left the scene.
It is not clear how the accident occurred or where the teen was riding at the time. The news report indicates that officers are in possession of a surveillance video that shows the accident. It is not clear if the footage shows detailed information about the vehicle or the driver. The make and model of the vehicle were not provided in the report.
ABC 7 reports that the teenager was thrown from her bicycle during the impact and sustained injuries. She reportedly has a sprained wrist and has been recovering at home. Two other teens in the area saw the victim and helped her get back to her house.
Both the victim and her family members want the driver of the car to surrender to police. As of the time of the ABC 7 report’s posting online, no suspect had been identified or arrested.
Officers are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers, which allows anonymous reporting. Tips can be called in to (800) 220-TIPS. Information leading to an arrest will be eligible for a reward up to $5,000.
