STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK – According to an article posted on silive.com, a cyclist was tragically killed after he was thrown off of his electric bike in Stapleton. The bicyclist was identified as a 39-year-man man from Stapleton.
According to a statement by the NYPD, the fatal accident occurred at around 10:30 in the morning. When law enforcement and emergency responders answered the 911 call of an electric bike crash on Targee Street. At first, the cyclist sustained a head injury that was described as not appearing to be a life-threatening injury. The EMS who took the victim to the Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton reported that the man was in stable medical condition.
Unfortunately, the cyclist’s condition began to deteriorate, and he was pronounced deceased that day in the hospital.
According to a statement read by the police spokesman, the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the fatal accident. According to the police statement, their preliminary investigation determined that the man was riding an electric bike north along Targee when he collided with the rear of RAM 1500 pickup truck that was both unoccupied and illegally parked on the street. The cyclist was then ejected from the electric bike.
No other people were involved in the auto accident. The NYPD’s Highway Division was called in to investigate the accident since the agency probes accidents with life-threatening injuries.
