Watercraft accident
NEW YORK (AP) — According to an online news report posted on myjournalcourier.com, a man was tragically killed while another is recuperating from personal injuries following their personal watercraft colliding on the Harlem River last Saturday evening. The collision occurred at approximately 8 p.m. close to the intersection of 9th Avenue and West 203rd Street.
The news report states that both of the riders were knocked unconscious, and the two men needed to be rescued by eyewitnesses to the personal watercraft crash. Emergency responders arrived, and the men were transported to the New York-Presbyterian Hospital. One of the operators, 35-year-old man, was later pronounced dead at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
The identities of the two men are being withheld until law enforcement is able to notify the next of kin. The police stated that the accident will not result in any criminal charges at this time.
In New York, if the vessel that you are operating is involved in any type of accident with another vessel, the boat operators are required by law to exchange information with the vessel operators involved in the accident. In the event that one of the vessel owners or operators cannot be located following an accident, the boat accident needs to be reported to law enforcement as quickly as possible. Under Navigation Law Section 41.3, any operator of a boat is required to render as much help or assistance possible to another vessel involved in an accident or otherwise.
