ENGLEWOOD, New Jersey — Englewood Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services raced to the scene of a freak accident Sunday at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Linden Avenue for a report of an automobile crash that took down a telephone pole. When first responders arrived, they found the pole crashed down upon to other people who were riding in another car. The pole crushed the car. Firefighters had to use their extrication tool to free the two trapped men, according to an article appearing in the Daily Voice. Both of the males trapped in the car were taken to a local hospital for treatment of extensive injuries. The Englewood Police are still investigating the incident and have not charged the woman who crashed into the pole at this time.
Englewood police are trying to figure out why a 57-year-old woman driving a Lexus station wagon-styled vehicle crashed into a light pole as she was driving north on Grand Avenue. The impact with the pole pulled two other poles. Coincidentally, one of the poles fell upon a car driving behind the woman who crashed. The power lines appear to have been yanked down by the collapsing pole.
Two men riding in a Toyota Rav 4, who was heading north on Grand Avenue, were trapped by one of the falling poles as the pole crashed down on their car. One of the men was a 42-year-old man from Connecticut, and the other man is reportedly 21-years-old who lives in Englewood. First responders used their extrication tools to free the men pinned in the car by the pole.
The two men were injured in the bizarre incident. They were taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center for treatment. The injuries were severe, but medics did not consider the injuries to be life-threatening.
Englewood Police closed Grand Avenue for about nine hours to repair the poles and investigate the crash. The outcome of the crash is pending.
